For over 350 years we've been crafting the Taste Suprême that eventually became KRONENBOURG 1664. Scroll down to read our story.
The origins of our suprême taste
Recently graduated master brewer Jérôme Hatt opens his first brewery, Brasserie du Canon, in Strasbourg. This is part of the Alsace region in north-east France. The area is famous for its location as it has a strong, rich gastronomy and brewing heritage.
Kronenbourg finds it’s home
Our brewery moves to the village of Kronenbourg, to the west of Strasbourg. The higher terrain and lower temperatures allow for the most suprême brewing conditions.
Hop to it
High quality Strisselspalt hops – the champagne of hops unique to Alsace – are used for the first time by KRONENBOURG brew masters. The hops' unique aroma creates a distinctive and refined taste.
Kronenbourg 1664 arrives in Britain!
KRONENBOURG 1664 is created for the first time using nearly 300 years of brewing knowledge to create the Taste Suprême. It is brought into Britain for the first time ahead of celebrations for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 to the throne of the United Kingdom. This led to it being imported to 68 other countries around the world!
La Première Bière
KRONENBOURG 1664 wins the International Brewing Award's Gold medal two years running, all down to delivering the Taste Suprême.
A Taste Suprême
KRONENBOURG 1664 launches its new campaign, 'A Taste Suprême', celebrating our position as a premium beer with a unique flavour, steeped in French brewing heritage from Alsace.
Le Grand Birthday!
Millions of pints are raised around the world to celebrate the 350th anniversary of Jerome Hatt’s original brewery.
Creating the Taste Suprême wouldn't be possible without the produce or influence of Alsace where we were born in 1664.
